Kan seals nuclear deal with Vietnam (Page 9)

Japan has concluded an agreement to build two civil nuclear reactors for Vietnam and to co-operate with the Vietnamese government on the exploration and refining of rare earth minerals. Vietnam wants to generate as much as 20% of its energy from nuclear by 2030.

BG to start $15bn gas project (Page 19)

BG Group is to go ahead with a $15bn LNG project in Queensland, Australia. The 8.5m-tonne annual capacity is equivalent to 10% of the UK gas demand and will be sold mostly to China and other Asian customers from 2014. The plant will be the first to produce LNG from coal-bed methane, a type of natural gas taken from coal seams.
